      High Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) Spraying

      High Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying involves the continuous, high-pressure combustion of a fuel-oxygen mixture within a water-cooled combustion chamber. The process accommodates a range of fuel types, including gaseous fuels (e.g., propane, ethylene, propylene, butane, acetylene, and hydrogen), liquid fuels (e.g., kerosene, paraffin, or isoparaffin-based formulations), as well as hybrid combinations thereof. The elevated pressure generated by the combustion reaction, combined with the convergent-divergent expansion nozzle geometry, produces a supersonic gas jet characterized by high particle velocities and controlled heat transfer to the feedstock material.

      The feedstock material, typically in powder form, is introduced into the gas stream either axially through the combustion chamber or radially within the nozzle section. During transit to the substrate, the powder particles undergo simultaneous rapid acceleration and controlled heating, impacting the component surface with high kinetic energy and thermal input.
